Jay Jasper - The Myth of Family

Opening Friday August 30th at 7pm
Runs until Friday September 27th.

In this exhibition, the Alchemist's Studio explores family from a spiritual, cultural, emotional, and personal perspective through the use of sculpture and vases. The idea of the 'Tree of Life' and 'Family Tree' is prominent in these works. Each piece tells part of the interwoven story that explores our collective roots and the twisted branches that tell the tale of our human family and experience through myths and stories from around the world and throughout time.

Stories associated with the vases can be found at

"According to the ancients, the first matter was a four fold structure that consisted of Fire, Earth, Air and Water. We use all of these elements to create our work. Earth (clay) is our base, water helps us to shape and form that base, air dries the clay and fire transforms the glaze to create magic.  We use a number of techniques to achieve the results we do, including Raku, wood firing and more conventional methods"  - Jay Jasper
